WORLD OF MUSIC AT FAMILY-FRIENDLY GTSF
Building on Gate To Southwell’s growing reputation as one of the best small music festivals in the UK, even more international and British artists will now be joining the strong contingent of headliners this July (2nd-5th). Led by Scotland’s most famous and much-loved duo The Proclaimers and legendary Fairport Convention singer-songwriter Richard Thompson OBE (performing with his wife singer-songwriter Zara Phillips), recent new recruits include the famous African vocal and dance group Black Umfolosi, the Virginia USA “stringband” sounds of The Hot Seats and rising gothic folk star Amelia Coburn.

They’ll add to the rich mix of music at the 19th GTSF which also stars those “Hebridean Pogues” Peat & Diesel from Stornaway, Show of Hands’ Steve Knightley with his all-star Winter Yards Band, multi award-winning Scottish dance outfit Elephant Sessions, Honeyfeet featuring the fine vocals and flute of Rioghnach Connolly, celebrated Irish folk band Ranagri plus the best roots acts emerging from the East Coast of Canada (such as Campbell & Johnston from Nova Scotia) performing as part of a special weekend-long ECMA showcase.
GTSF has always been a fantastic family-friendly event and, once again, there’s a chance this month to get a flavour of the festival at a special “Kids Area Taster Event”. Run by GTSF’s children’s coordinator Becky Syson, the free taster session will run from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday March 28th at Southwell Library. Kids can expect parachute play, storytelling, arts and crafts, bubbles, singing and dancing, plus ukuleles! See page…
Festival goers this July will also enjoy the rousing brass-folk of Keston Cobblers Club, New Orleans jazz and blues from Around About Dusk and shanty folk punk from Man The Lifeboats who sound like the love children of The Men They Couldn’t Hang and The Clash!
GTSF ticket sales have already hit record levels thanks to the promise of great music, kids and family entertainment, dance and ceilidhs, excellent food and drink, music workshops and much more. With more artists to be announced, Gate To Southwell Festival again takes place in the beautiful rural location at Kirklington Lakes (NG22 8NX). Day, weekend, weekend extra, camping and glamping tickets are available now via so gtsf.uk
