Two very different takes on roots music just announced. London Afrobeat Collective's hard-driving, funked-up groove brings Fela Kuti into the 21st century, and raved-up Welsh trad from NoGood Boyo.
London Afrobeat Collective
8 musicians. One goal. To increase the positive energy in the world by making people dance!
“A fulsome evocation of Fela Kuti’s continually inspiring blend of The J.B.’s-style jazz-funk horns lashed to a relentless mix of funky highlife and Yoruba, all delivered with aplomb….”
Time Out London.
Having cut their teeth on the London scene, and a regular hit on the UK & Europe touring circuit since 2017, their high-energy live set is not to be missed! Virgin Music said of one festival performance “London Afrobeat Collective, … a multi-instrument band providing infectious, vibrant grooves to a crowd that literally wouldn’t let them leave the stage.”
See them on Sunday afternoon.
NoGood Boyo
Dressed in attire resembling a steam-punking Welsh Nana, and with their music mixing traditional Welsh language songs with the sounds of 90s rave and nu-metal, NoGood Boyo are already on their way to taking over the music industry in Wales, and they are ready to party like it's 1699. Named after Dylan Thomas’ bad boy character from Under Milk Wood, NoGood Boyo causes havoc in the wash house they are more interested in causing havoc with Welsh trad music and tearing up the festival dance tent. They stand by their motto, go loud or go home boyo!
Playing on Friday.
