Korrontzi are a folk band from Spain's Basque Country, formed by Agus Barandiaran in 2004 with the purpose of giving Basque Country folk music based on the trikitixa (Basque diatonic accordion) a contemporary edge.
A few years on and they have widened their scope - flamenco merging with fandango, Portuguese fado with the clamour of porrusalda, arin-arin with Italian music, biribilketa with Galician sounds, Sicily joining festive kalejira, Sardinia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Scotland, Asturias, Catalonia, France - probably a lot here we are unfamiliar with, and so much to look forward to.
All this is enhanced by traditional Basque "Oinkari" dancers joining the 4- piece on stage making this definitely one of the unmissable sets of the festival this year.
