KRIS DREVER & CAHALEN MORRISON

Kris and Cahalen are the ultimate ‘musician’s musicians’ who draw from diverse musical backgrounds but are friends and kindred spirits in their subtle instrumental mastery, evocative songwriting and innovative musicality.

Kris Drever last played GTSF in 2023. He’s a Glasgow based, Orkney born musician, and winner of an incredible 7 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards; two shortlist nominations for Scottish Album of The Year (with his trio Lau) and much acclaim for his solo recordings and concerts including winning Best Album of The Year (MG Alba Trad Awards) 2021 for 'Where The World Is Thin'.

Kris Drever is, in my opinion, one of the great lyricists writing today

John Wilks, TradFolk

As well as creating and playing with the innovative trio Lau, he’s had a fruitful solo career exploring the cracks between classic and modern songwriting and the traditional music that he comes from. He’s worked with a diverse range of excellent musicians, including Jack Bruce, Eddi Reader, Mark Knopfler, Jerry Douglas and Roddy Woomble – and more importantly now, with the unique voice in American music that is Cahalen Morrison.

Originally hailing from the high desert of Northern New Mexico, Cahalen Morrison has made a name for himself over the past decade as an insightful and poetic wordsmith and songwriter, a subtle and accomplished roots multi-instrumentalist and a captivating singer, equally at home on guitar, banjo, mandolin, singing three-part harmony or unaccompanied. Well known for his singular turn of phrase and curiously poignant songs, he dips deep into the well of tradition while pushing the boundaries of contemporary songwriting.

Cahalen is making music the world needs

Both artists will be releasing powerful new albums in 2026: Kris’ Doing this for love and Cahalen’s The Rolling Thunder of The Sea.

They are playing on Saturday.
