EMILEA MAY

107 crop.jpg

Emilea May joins our East Coast Music Association Canadian Showcase.

When Emilea picks up a guitar, she is seeking something elusive. The chords and melodies are reaching out for connection, trying to capture or process a feeling. Coming from one of Prince Edward Island's great musical families–her grandfather Gene MacLellan wrote Anne Murray’s “Snowbird” and her aunt is multi-award-winning folk artist Catherine MacLellan (who played GTSF in 2024), May is more than a traditional singer-songwriter. Her open-tuning harmony and lilting melodies evoke Phoebe Bridgers, Sarah Harmer, Joni Mitchell and Madison Cunningham. Her songs reach deep inside us to where the soul stirs and moves toward healing and her forthcoming EP "Unwreck Me" echoes her own lived experience through the heartache, the heaviness and the holding onto hope.

May's haunting vocals and stories have thrilled audiences at Paddlefest, Goolahala, the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and has performed alongside artists such as Basia Bulat, The Strumbellas, Rose Cousins, and Tim Baker.

The Government of Prince Edward Island: Described her album, Unwreck Me, as a "raw and heartfelt exploration of vulnerability" featuring "poignant storytelling, evocative lyrics and memorable melodies".

Under the Spire: Highlighted her "dreamy vocals and honest lyrics" that "provoke deep-feeling and introspection" while weaving tales of heartache and hope.
