Fire And Dust

The Woody Guthrie Story

If something needs to be sung about then Reg Meuross has a song for it. Fire & Dust focusses on the life and times of the ‘Dustbowl’ American folk musician and political activist Woody Guthrie - whose work remains highly influential today.

In 2019, Pete Townsend of The Who commissioned Reg to write this song cycle telling Guthrie’s life story. Aimed at all music lovers, fans of Reg and those interested in the ongoing social impact of Guthrie’s songs today, this new set of songs shows Meuross at his absolute best - sharing stories from social history that are still highly relevant.

Fire & Dust (to be released in Autumn 2024) is a journey into the heart and soul of one of America’s finest folk musicians. Highlighting racism, bigotry, corruption and inequality - Meuross draws parallels between Guthrie’s time & our own.

Reg is joined by Welsh singer, songwriter, pianist and accordionist Geraint Watkins who also features on the album. Geraint has backed many notable artists, including Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney, and even Status Quo! He was a touring member of Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings and keyboard player with ex-Fleetwood Mac Peter Green’s Splinter Group.

Reg is also performing solo, and with Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne and Suntou Susso in his powerful slave-trade song-cycle,  Stolen From God.
