We are still working on the 2019 Programme
Hear is our Spoken Word Programme for 2018
Saturday: Spoken Word Showcase
Join us on Saturday afternoon for something a little bit different: we'll have poetry and storytelling from the DIY Poets collective, a fantastic group of Nottingham-based writers and performers bringing you some of the best spoken word from the East Midlands, and beyond! They'll be tall tales, comedy, rhythms, rhymes, and much more!
This is a chance to check out the broad range of talent on the local spoken word scene, and see some of the rising stars Before They Were Famous. The showcase is loosely based on the themes of music and community, but anything can happen with spoken word!
Sunday: The Southwell Slam
This year, we'll be back hosting the Southwell Poetry Slam, an open poetry and spoken word performance competition, where you could win the chance to be crowned Bard of The Gate to Southwell 2017!
What is the Southwell Slam?
A poetry slam is a competition where people read or perform a short piece of writing for an audience. Each performer can choose to read out a poem, song lyrics or a short story, which can be their own work, or a piece of writing by another author. Each person gets three minutes in which to recite or read their piece, and at the end of the competition, the audience decide their favourites. The winner will be given the title of the Bard of The Gate to Southwell 2017.
The slam will be a friendly, relaxed and supportive space, with plenty of room for writers and performers of all ages and abilities. So why not try something a bit different this year, and sign up for the Southwell Slam!
How do I sign up ?
To sign up for the slam see the leaflets around the festival site over the weekend.
Please note that you will need a ticket to the festival on Sunday 9th June in order to take part in the Southwell Slam.
