Mairi Sutherland

IMG_6450 (1) crop.JPG

Mairi Sutherland is a singer-songwriter and artist from Scotland, known for her emotive songwriting and distinctive fingerpicking guitar style. Drawing influence from the likes of Laura Marling, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Fleet Foxes, her music blends open tunings and folk-rooted melodies with intricacies inspired by the prog rock that captivated her as a child. Her lyrics, often playfully deep, delve into themes of over-thinking, emotional processing, and personal reflection.

Alongside her music, Mairi is passionate about storytelling, weaving mythical narratives into her songs and bringing them to life through original illustrations and animations, beginning to incorporate these into her live shows to create an immersive experience.

Previously, Mairi released a series of live tracks - filmed and recorded by fellow art graduates - that capture the raw, intimate essence of her performances. She has also performed at a variety of stages, including Glastonbury’s Avalon Café, Eden Festival, Dougie MacLean’s Perthshire Amber Festival, Moniaive Folk Festival, and St. Luke's, to name just a few.

Mairi is also enthusiastic about the spirit of collaboration, having created a collaborative album as part of Anam Creative's 'Music Collab' project, alongside being a member of Perth's energetic rock group Parliamo from August 2020 - January 2025.
